I found this and looked up more, very interesting, from some of the trips ppl took there are still old houses and buildings along the way. This would make for a great hiking trip.
The Le Chemin Dawson Trail is a tribute to Simon Dawson, the surveyor and engineer responsible for surveying the country from Lake Superior to the Red River, and his accomplishments in building the first all-Canadian route to Western Canada. The trail, no longer visible, parallels today’s Trans Canada Highway from Winnipeg to East Braintree, then veers south to the North East Angle. Made up of corduroy sections and wooden bridges, portages and locks, the trail was used by wagon loads of pioneers and militia until the building of the railroad.
