I'm not sure what you are asking. If you want to know if it is a good idea.Yes it is.It keep the internet creeps from getting info of your computer. It also stops spy ware from calling out if your computer gets infected. If you use a good one it will ask you whenever a program tries to access the internet. And it will tell you whenever anyone tries to access your computer from the outside.

firewalls? hmmm..its really important and its a basic and must have software in your pc...

the good news and the bad.

1. the great thing about it is that you can stay protected and make sure that no one can intrude your privacy and secure your files from being stolen.

2. Firewalls can also help you to protect you from other unwanted programs to dominate your computer and this will prevent unwanted activities without your awareness and if it does occure, your computer will have a high risk of being infected to viruses and worms or even worst.

3. On the other side, firewalls can sometimes (accidently) disturb our activities with the computer because the firewall may assume that ist an intrusion of an unwanted program so you better set what can and cannot be done to your pc.

4. sometimes firewalls could block the website that we're visiting and may cause certain errors to the computer and this might cause a limited web surfing activities.

5. hope that helped and I use Norton firewall on my computer its great but it makes the RAM slow so choose your firewall wisely.

6. If your searching for firewalls go to www.download.com and search for it.

7.good luck

The use of a firewall is important. The windows built in firewall is not good enough. It only monitors traffic one way. You need more than that. Since you asked this question you may not have ever used a firewall before, so here is a link to a good one right out of the box. http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ , that link will get you right to the page to download it.

You can read a long thread about firewall at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-10149_102-0.html?forumID=7&threadID=107024&messageID=1221546

Good Luck. Hope this helps ya.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking.

Yes I use a hardware and software firewall. If you don't and you are using a windows based pc you WILL get loads of spyware and viruses.
The free zonealarm one is pretty good place to start.

firewall is basically an anti virus software which acts as a barrier for the viruses entering on our computer.

Very important. Download Zone Alarm and start using it. Its free. Download it from "http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp;jsessionid=Fls7MHUNZ4x1DLOQmalwt14QZkijLVq1haJpAKL2v1Cm5DARwaNH!-519063793!-1062696904!7551!7552!NONE?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=nav_za".
Simply put, firewall doesnot allow any of your applications to talk to teh outside world without knowledge. It also doesnot all teh outside world to talk to your PC without your knowledge. Otherwise your information can be transferred to the outside world without you knowing it.
