In practice, there's probably not much difference.

However, "burping" implies something quick and constrained, while "belching" is more extended and out of control.

Yes. If you burp or let out a belch, it is the same thing. When you slap a baby on the back to make air come out of his stomach after eating, that is called burping the baby, not belching him.

According to Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to belch is "to expel gas suddenly from the stomach through the mouth", and a burp is "the act or an instance of belching". So from my understanding they are pretty much the same thing. Maybe someone else can give you more insight though.

Yes.. it is the same.. I belched or I burped.. HOWEVER.. when a baby does it.. I have NEVER heard it referred to as a belch but ONLY as a burp

It's in the same family, but belching is more profound and deep, whereas a burp is much smaller
