Do Brown dwarf stars burn fuel in the normal way?

No, they don't.
Brown dwarfs are failed stars. They didn't gather enough mass when forming to start the nuclear fusion process (they never fuse hydrogen or helium contrary to what someone has said*). They don't create a lot of energy because they don't have these nuclear reactions, that's why they are so dim. They are basically like giant Jupiters once formed.

Because they don't do nuclear fusion they are actually more stable and should last longer than a star. Stars die out or explode due to changes in their ability to fuse certain elements which makes them expand and collapse rapidly. Some stars can exist then as a white dwarf (a smallish star that died- what our sun will become), these do not create energy through nuclear fusion either, but it is because they ran out of what they were massive enough to "burn" not because they were never massive enough to "burn" in the first place.

If brown dwarfs emit any energy it would be minuet amouts from tides or electrical activity.

All main sequence stars create energy through nuclear fusion. Different stars are simply fusing different elements.
The term brown dwarf is usually applied to objects whose mass doesn't quite generate enough gravitational pressure in their interiors to sustain the fusion process.

Actually, a brown dwarf is a star which failed to become big enough to make light as energy. Brown Dwarfs are formed by smalll clouds of gases that is not enough to be a real star.

A brown dwarf is an old star which wasn't big enough to
go super nova when it's hydrogen and helium were used up
in nuclear fusion. So it just collapsed and what's left is hot heavier elements but not hot enough for nuclear fusion.

as the person above me answered "that they should live longer".
Actually they live long but due to no internal heat they slowly die. they have enough heat at they biggening but as they get older they loose it because of now fusion and they basically became black brawf and scientist think that they some dark matter in the universe is brown drawfs.
