Answering this question from Canada.

Here, all you need is a letter of standing in the school district you wish to substitute in. To get one, you must pass a criminal check and (presumably) have some level of academic training. There is supposed to be a "pecking order" so that the most trained substitutes get called for work first. My academic training entitles me to a class 5 teaching licence in my province. Maybe an associates degree entitles you to a teaching licence where you live?

My advice would be to get a criminal check done, see your school district superintendant and ask what qualifications you need to subtitute. If an associates degree is enough, present him with the criminal check and ask to be on the substitute list.

Assuming you get on the list, then see the principals in the schools you wish to work in. Let them know when you are available and what subjects you prefer to teach. Some principals will just want a warm body in front of the kids, others will prefer someone who actually knows something.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

It depends on what state you are in. I retired from teaching in NY. They would like to get certified teachers, but they took anyone who had completed 1 year of college.

I am now substituting in MD. Again they would like certified teachers but anyone who has graduated can sub.

I know that in many southern states high school graduation is all that is needed.

There is a sliding pay scale. There is also finger printing and background check to go through and pay for.

In many States the AA is more than enough! My state has you take a Test. $30 gets you study materials and 3 shots to pass. It is always better to have your BA in case they offer you a permanent job.

depends where you live. in most states, like 87% of the 50, do require a bachelor's degree. some required only high school education/diploma. some small amount of states required a master's so do ask your local school board. they can set you straight real quick.

In California you need a B.A. and you need to pass the CBEST test. You get paid around a $100 a day, give or take a few dollars.........
