The answer to your question would depend on what type of visa you needed for the UK.

For a visit visa, IELTS is not compulsory.

For a student visa, yes it is. This previously used to be a condition placed by the institution that you would be attending in the UK. The condition would be clearly mentioned in the offer letter sent to you by the institution.

The new ruling for a UK student visa now requires the applicant to show that they have successfully attained the required score, and even otherwise, prove that their English language skills are sufficient for their stay in the UK as a student.

No.. Convince the visa guy by providing the School and College certificate that mentions English as a subject

yes if u r applying for student visa. and if u don't want to give exam from india than u can also do one thing, just take admission in language improvement program in uk, in that u have to study their in that program and there is no need to give any exams from india. it is easy way to get visa.

not for a tourist or business visa but for studies yes, they may wave it for certain Doctorate subjects.
