What an interesting question. :-)

Music, like mathematics, is in many respects considered a language. I've heard it is true that children who grow up learning to play a musical instrument find mathematics easier than children who do not play an instrument.

It's a well documented fact that learning one language exercises portions of the brain making it easier to learn successive languages, with each additional language being easier than the one before it. So it stands to reason that someone who has become "fluent" in the "language" of music might find it easier to learn a foreign language afterward.

I love this question!!! Yes, there IS an interaction between music and learning languages. I took 6 years of piano lessons and 2 years of singing lessons as a child, and those music lessons greatly helped to train my ears. When I learn a foreign langauge, I can master the pronunciation faster than others. Also I hardly have a trace of accent when I speak a foreign langauge. When I hear people speaking in Chinese, I can quickly detect if the speaker is a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese or of a certain dialect. So, there's definitely a relation between learning a language and to be a musician.

Many of the talents developed in learning music help in learning a language. Training of the ear is one.

In my experience in language teaching students who have developed musical talents are usually good language students ....exceptions for students who are musicians but don`t want to learn a language. Singing helps more than playing an instrument, and playing an instrument helps a lot.

My father certainly believes that there is a correlation between musical ability and the ability to pronounce well in a second language. It seems to me like I read something about it lately, but aptitude tests of that kind have been out of vogue for a long time. There certainly aren't any generally accepted theories about it.

music is one of the best ways to learn a language, you pick up
the words without any effort, then you start to understand the words and before you know it. You just picked up another language.
