Could someone please explain why so many native English-speakers have such a hard time with apostrophes and making words plural? I am soooooo tired of seeing fancy, professionally painted signs reading "Apple's for sale" or "We have lottery ticket's". Has anyone else noticed this? Any explanation?

Cloud: My daughter is 8 and in third grade, and it has never been an issue...I am going to keep an eye on this and nip it in the bud if I ever see it.

Too many people that didn't study in english class, I suppose. Way too many grammatical errors these days. But that seems to be the least of the problems now...its hard to find people who can actually spell!
I think the book "Eats shoots, and leaves" should be required reading for EVERYONE!!
So, yes, I agree with you whole-heartedly! Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!

No explanation except that people do not know that an apostrophe is used for possession, contractions and some abbreviations but not for plurals.

I have noticed, when grading primary school work, that this habit has developed by 3rd. grade, & despite being CONSTANTLY corrected, they continue to do it!!!
