I think the answer is ideally none or just one at a push. My friend thinks that if he has 2 glasses of wine and a pint he is ok. I can't get through to him that even if he doesn't feel drunk he is over the limit. Am I right???

Personally I wouldn't have anything alcoholic and then drive but different people act differently. How about buying your friend one of those self test breath tests (I think Boots sold them last year)? I am sure it would show your friend the truth - whether it's safe or not? You could probably search on the internet and discover where you can buy them.

The general rule we were taught in driving school was that it took 1 hour to get 1 drink out of your system. But back then the legal limit was .1. Either way, there's a "wet and reckless" charge even if you test under whatever the legal limit is where you are. It carries all the penalties of a DUI, it just drops off your driving record faster.

Scare your friend with that. It's the truth. I would never drive after even one drink. I've had too many friends have their lives messed up.

It is to do wth many factors, weight, sex (men can drink more than women) and whether you have eaten or not. He sounds pretty close if not over the limit to me, you definitely will not feel drunk if you are undre the limit and many people will not feel drunk if they are over the limit. I stop at one glass of wine early in the evening, but if you are in Sweden even that is too much! Try and stop your friend before he kills someone.

It is the equiv of 1.5 pints of "normal strength" beer; which is also about 1.5 glasses of "normal strength" wine - certainly NOT as much as 2 glasses of wine and a pint! 2 glasses alone is usually too much - especially if they are large glasses. One pint of strong lager on its own is nearly the limit

None!
People think a couple of pints is ok to drink. Yet its the equivalent of 6 JD and cokes and you hopefully wouldn't think of driving after that. The only safe way to drive is stone cold sober.

The limit is 0.05% here and by the looks of other answers the limit else where is higher as our recommended intake is a lot lower than other answers.

We are told that it depends on your sex, body weight, health, tiredness, what you have had to eat and so on.

Generally here we are told 2 standard drinks in the first hour for females (three for males) and one every hour after that will put you at about our legal limit.

But the CORRECT answer is Zero.

the best bet is none. he is over the limit if he is drinking that much and i hope he gets pulled by the police. you are allowed 1 unit which is 1 pint or 1 measure spirit. even if he feels ok he is over the limit and his reaction times will be slower.

No your not right. I know someone who had 6 pints and passed a breathlyser regularly! I think it's down to the individual tolerance but I stop after 1 shandy because I can feel it a little and need my license. Bestway to prove it is to buy a keyring breathlyser from Maplin (about £10). GL

This adds nothing new to the list of answers, but if you are asking a question like that it's best not to have anything to drink.
Hind sight will be 20/20 why even risk it? If one does drink, best to have a designated driver.
