I wish I ran into girls like you when I asked girls out in America (I now live in China). Back then they were sooo mean! I used to get answers like "You got to be kidding!", "you are joking right?" "Not in a million years", "You talking to me"
First - did he ask you out? If so, then say something like
a) Thanks for asking me out, I appreciate it. But, I don't think you are the right kind of guy for me.
b) Thanks, but I don't think we would make a good couple.
c) Thanks but I prefer we stay friends.
d) Thanks but I am not interested, sorry.
If you are saying that you don't like the guy not even as a friend - why do you have to tell him? If he asks you out then tell him one of the above. If you just don't like being around him - no reason to tell him - just avoid him.

I tried not to hurt him too much and I was too nice so he thought I wasnt being serious, and h e camped on my doorstep. I ended up marrying him and regretting it ever since

Just tell him that you love him as a Friend, but you do not want a relationship with him. Ask for his forgiveness, and tell him he can always count on you as a friend. Have a good day!

Think of a mate who may like him, then tell him you have a friend that you wanna set him up with and what does he think about it and would he go for it??
That way your telling him your not interested without telling him!!

Hurt is something that is better done fast so if you are open and tell him how you feel then you are nto leading him on for a bigger fall.

well for me, don't say it. Just make some sort of strategies to stay away from him without him knowing that it is intentional,make yourself busy and by that he will slowly realize what his real score.
