There is no good/bad driving schools they all have to follow rule's set down by the driving standards agency and is is up to the learner drivers how quickly they learn those rules they can start by reading and memorising the highway code

Best thing is to start with someone who has been recommended and see how you get on with them. You need to be able to build a trust relationship because learning to drive is not necessarily an easy thing. If you find you don't get on with your instructor, change and try another. You often find that independent instructors are a little cheaper and more reliable.
If you give us a clue as to what area you live in perhaps someone can recommend a school if none of your friends can.

Your best bet is to ask people you know for a recommendation, even the big well known schools don't have teachers of the same standard.

Don't bother learning to drive. It's a LOT cheaper to go by bus.
To run a car you are looking at a MINIMUM of £150 a WEEK - fuel, tax, MOT, Insurance, parking, wear and tear.
It costs me £21 every 6 days to go by bus. You will make more friends, and who knows meet the love of your life as well.
