I love my religion because I can blame fairies and gnomes for just about eveything that goes wrong in my world. They are always screwing things up for me....I leave them candy and seeds and they are still on me about every little thing. I can't spit gum at my neigbors cat without them causing some kind of havoc for me.

I think we like it because everyone (even the atheist) has a belief about something. Beliefs are like passions. We all have an opinion and we all want to be heard. Our sense of justice is involved and it motivates us to speak our feelings about it.
