No, it's not normal. There have been some good answers given and all are possibilities. But there could be other problems as well. For example, bowel problems can cause any person to have bad breath. Laugh if you will, but it is true. To simplify it, the odour can be picked up by the blood and then released through the mouth. My advice for you would be to get your child to the doctor for a thorough examination. Make sure you let the doctor know about your childs bad breath, when it started and if there is any particular time when it is better or worse, for example, is it better after a bowel movement, maybe it's better in the morning and then gets worse as the day goes by. As silly as it may seem, these could be good indicators for your doctor and may help him narrow down the cause. But then again, maybe your child will just be prone to bad breath. Unfortunately, at his age, there is very little you can do. Do not give him any sort of a mouth wash or other breath fresheners. These are designed, for the most part, for persons aged 6 and older. But definitely consult your doctor about it and ask for his advice about freshening it if there is nothing physically wrong with him/her.

I have a one year old son who has a bad breath too. But it's only temporary. I don't think it's a problem at all 'cos it comes from their diet. The smell will be gone after you brush their teeth and don't forget the tongue!! Same as adults, bad breath usually comes from bacteria on the tongue rather than their little teeth. :)

There are several reasons a child can get bad breath. Not brushing well, something that they have eaten, strep throat, and infected tonsils, just to name a few. I would suggest taking him/her to the Dr and having it checked out. My son would have terribly bad breath when his tonsils would get infected. They were enlarged also, so we made the decision to have them removed. It has made things much better. Hope that this helps!

Yes its normal. Its highly unlikely for an infant to suffer from halitosis (check sp.) the child could be teething and the blood from their gums causes bad breath.

sinus/ear infections can cause bad breath. Also not cleaning the teeth and tongue...YOU as the parent have to do this for now until the child is about two or three.

My daughter has had tonsil problems which result in the worst breath, Dr's don't like to take them out anymore, so I am still dealing with the problem and she is 8 years old now, It comes less frequently now.

Ok, well I know that my cousin had really bad breath one time and my aunt found out that she had something stuck in her nasal passage that had just "rotted". It was like a piece of tissue or something, so check that and I would suggest taking him/her to a doctor or dentist if you can't find anything!!
Good luck

No. I would take her to the pediatrician. It could be caused by post nasal drip or an infection of some type.
Hope you get this cleared up soon.
