ok i know about major stands : like one of you just said homosexuality, abortion, porn etc etc but what about everyday matters ? If I were to meet you on the street and observe you for 5 mins would I be able to say that's a Christian not because you wear a cross or pray (or pretend to) but because you were different ?

This could also hit along the lines of storing up treasures in heaven. We are always going to be in the world, but to be of the world is to agree and support the ways of the world (abortion, homosexuality being ok, are two main issues I can think of right now) We are to be a light in the world showing the world Jesus, but we are not to partake of the trappings of this world.

Read the scripture further... but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind so ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

So, not conforming to the world means to follow God's Word and be holy.

Some examples would be to not believe the nonsense that people like Oprah and Rosie O'Donnell spew out of their mouths. Their followers are like brainwashed cultists who can't think without their talk show host's opinions.

Do not become desensitized to the teachings of the world regarding things like abortion, homosexuality, sex, marriage, child discipline, and any other philosophical topic you can think of.
You need to take the same stand on those issues as God does. You need to conform to God's standards.

When I was in the world, I used to think that abortion was OK. I also thought listening to AC/DC, Led Zepplin and other garbage was fine. I also thought pornography was harmless. But when I became a Christian, God taught me how wrong all that really is. That is conforming to God and not the world.
Follow God and you will not conform to the world.

**Edit:
I believe that you would be drawn to me if you were seeking God and we met on the street. There is something about the Christian's conversation, mannerisms, etc. that should draw the seeker. I don't know if 5 mins is enough to do it, but it might.
The key here is if the person is seeking God and if the Christian is truly following God. Jesus said that His sheep know His voice and follow it. So, a true seeker of God will follow when they hear the understandings of God in someone's conversation.
They might not identify it as the "Holy Spirit", but they would sense a difference and be drawn to it.

It has happened to me before where I've met someone for 5 seconds and something automatically draws me to that person. Come to find out that the person is a Christian. The Holy Spirit is an amazing thing. If you are in tune with it, you can sense many things. Especially if you have the gift of discernment of spirits.

God is speaking to us constantly. The key is to tune out the distractors so we can listen. I don't know if that answers your question. Feel free to email me if you want to discuss this further because I think it's a good question and an important one.

Once you receive Christ as your Lord and Savior and He begins working in your life and pulling you away from your sins and you begin to read the bible and learn the truth, it changes you and you become different. This isn't a work that one does, it's an result of your changed life in Him. You don't agree with the world and it's sinful ways any more and it will show to other people. All you have to do is stay firm in Him and say stand up for the truth when you should. Then you won't be conformed to the world.

We are to be transformed not conformed we are to be like Jesus and follow his example and live according to the spirit and not the flesh. We should live our lives according to our faith and not the way the world lives. We are to live our lives in faith not simply living as if this world is all we have. Those that live their lives according to the world live for today and this life not the eternal life which is to come.

the verse goes on to say: "But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind". (Romans 12: 2)

We are transformed by the renewing of our minds... through bible study and prayer, through obedience to his word, we acquire the same tastes, the same character as God...

We learn to hate the things that God hates and love the things that God loves....

We are changed, little by little, into the image of Christ....

It involves what we eat, what we wear, how we talk, how we answer Yahoo questions, what we do with our time, what we read, where we go to church, when we go to church, what movies we watch, what prayers we pray, what friends we have, what goals we have, what job we do, what house we live in, how we treat our children, how we treat our dog, how we treat our neighbor, how we treat the trick or treaters......in short, EVERYTHING!!!

shouldn't it? shouldn't being a Christian involve our whole lives?

It ain't a sunday morning thing!!!!

it means they are not supposed to even be on this computer. they are supposed to live the simplest life possible: like taking a bus or bike instead of owning a car. wearing modest clothing, always being the first to help people, even when it hurts. their focus is supposed to be on others and not themselves.
