Our urine tells us a lot about us. Almost everything that goes wrong comes out our urine. It will change from one day to the next. People with drug problems think they can drink water to "wash" away the drugs, we see this right away. The urine is washed, we just make them come back later.
I've gone through 35- 50 urine samples a day by smell alone and could tell, about what was wrong with a person. The color is an indication sometimes. Usually when we drink a lot of water or go without, a lot of coffee, other liquids, eat beets, Asparagus, etc it all shows up.
Your urine is like a window to you Billirubin, or your Endocrine system, the part of, or I should say your organs, that clean your blood, your dead blood cells go through here, they clean them from your blood. If they're working right you should have color in your blood. Babies sometimes have to have sunlight or ultraviolet light to help mature these organs. I wouldn't worry unless you have a burning, pain or there's drastic changes and a lot of smells to go along with it. Your Thyroid is part of this.

Your mom's right. If your urine is dark yellow, you're dehydrated and need to drink more water so that you're not making your kidneys work so hard (which is not good for them and could lead to things like kidney stones (very painful).
