First, observe what they are and what they want.... Are they a shy type or a smart child? Or are they talkative or they are silent-type... Well, a child needs different way of treatment.. But apparently, every child needs love and care... And that's the very first thing that you have to give them before you can improve your communication with them... Communication is not just through talking to them. But you can communicate with them through your actions. Like hugging them, or simply patting them in their shoulders.. That will be the start. You will see, if they are not yet a good talker or if they are just toddlers who knows just ten words or less, they can speak to you because they will be so eager to tell you how much they love you.. And another tip.... Don't baby-talk to them...

You can improve communication with a young child through...child's play...story reading/telling...jokes...taking a walk hand in hand...through warm hugs and kisses...feeding him properly on time...and by letting the child feel that you are always there for him when he/she needs you.

the line of communications is going to have to depend on the age and ability of the child to express feeling and concerns i try to have an open door policy when ever my kids want to tell me something no matter if i know ans hate waht is going to be said i let them tel me anyway. as you child develops and establishs a good oral communication it will be easier

depends a lot on how young of a child you're speaking of. And, if you mean to get a child (presumably school age) to open up and just simply share things with you - or a toddler to be able to simply tell you his/her needs and you understand them. ??

teach your child WORDS.
seriously, some parents don't. they know what the child wants and get it without the child trying to say the word. this is why some parents are teaching sign to babies.
