As title, I want to do something about it but don't really want to go and ask my GP face to face. I have recently started a diet of low fat low calorie food to help me lose weight, eating lots of fruit and veg, but I think its made the problem even worse.
I often get a bloated feeling in my stomach and sometimes suffer from heartburn.
I often take Gaviscon and wind settlers but never really notice any results.
I also drink a fair amount, sometimes up to 144 units a week but not often, on an average i'd say about 80 units a week, again trying to cut this down as well.
My girlfriend thinks I should visit my doctor, but for obvious reasons I dont want to. If anyone has any ideas then please help.

If you eat your food too quickly or gulp it down with out chewing properly it can cause wind. It may be a simple idea of slowing down your eating. Mind you a diet of veg and fruit will give you wind too. But better out than in i guess!

The drinking is not helping. Beer and wind go together .
Even if it's only occasionally, 144 units a week is excessive.
that an average of about 7 pints+ per day
even 80 units is an average of 4 pints+ per day.

try and find which foods are worse. the obvious ones are onions and beans/pulses, try and avoid them.

Like any over the counter remedy, you should not use anti-wind remedies regularly.

Heartburn is not commonly associated with IBS. You do need to see your doc.

Your diet probably has a lot to do with it. Fiber and vegetables tend to produce more gas because while you can't digest the fiber the bugs in your colon can - the gas is a byproduct. Certain foods, such as broccoli, tend to add a noxious odor because of sulfur compounds in the food. It's harmless but very annoying.

And if you want help you're going to have to talk to your doctor. Don't worry, he's heard a lot more embarassing things than your problem. It's better than offending your future father in law by blowing a massive fart at dinner.

A man that I know consumed a similar amount of alcohol to you, he had heartburn, wind, etc; he's dead now as a result of liver failure.

The damage caused by your Alcohol abuse is not going to go away quickly, if at all - cut it down to about 1 unit a day - the lining of your stomach needs to repair itself, and alcohol will not help. Food must be rotting in your bowel instead of being digested in your stomach/intestine, you go and work it out, or the easiest option RIP...

I have same problem and have'nt found a cure for it yet,yes fruit will deinitely make it worse as I have found out since recently starting to eat more fruit.
You could have IBS which I have and unfortunately there is no cure for it.I wish I could have come up with a solution for you.I do think your girlfriend is right and you should get it checked out.

I would say its your diet - maybe you need more fibre and cut right down on the alcohol - even 80 units is way too much and if its beer then all that yeast will bloat you and give you gas xxx

A recent study was made to find out what days men prefer to have sex. It was found that men preferred to engage in sexual activity on the days that started with "T": Tuesday, Thursday, Thanksgiving, Today, Tomorrow, Thaturday and Thunday.

Have you ever tried Beano? It relieves the problem of the wind ever being produced, rather than trying to solve it when it has already occured.
