traditional eggnog always had alcohol. I modern times it is optional and the 'nog' in the grocery store was just the 'mixer' to make the egg nog. try it with rum also..its yummm!

Today the US standard makes rum the favorite liquor of choice for egg nog. I recommend an amber rum as it is slightly sweeter than white rum and not as strong as the dark. However, don’t discount sherry, brandy or a liqueur like Kahula.

But there is also egg nog that doesn't contain alcohol, but the more traditional one has rum in it.

i went to the liquor store last weekend and they had "eggnog liqueur", it appears and tastes like regular eggnog mixed with rum. it's very good! made by White Rock Distilleries out of Lewiston, ME and Londonderry, NH so it may be only available in the New England area (i live in Rhode Island).

hope this helps!

no, you're supposed to put alcohol in it. There maybe a product with it already in it, but none that I know

I like it without. I think that a good dark rum is what's added for the "happy" version.
