I dated the same guy throughout college and we were 7 hours apart. Back then, we wrote letters every week. Now, you can e-mail, call, send a video of yourself and a great bonus--a care package with his/her favorites. But, nothing is as romantic as a hand-written letter sprayed with your perfume. Smells trigger memories.
Communication is key in a relationship but I know, there's nothing better than being with the person whom you love.
Love develops because of communication and continues because of the committment to communication.
I hope that for the holidays, you are with the one you love.

Keep emailing him. Technology is good now, it allows people to be close at a distance for cheaper. Maybe you could visit him. You didn't specify if he was your boyfriend or whether he was just someone you had a cruch on, The former, try to make it work at all costs, the latter, find someone closer

"far away" as like in the service serving our country? then you stay faithful to him and pray that he is one of the lucky ones who returns home to you in something other than a body bag.
far away as like going to a college across country? then by all means string him along but find you a couple of sex partners to have fun with, because you know he is not going to turn down a chance to have sex with some hot young college girl whereever he is.

Take an advice from an experienced ..find way to be close to him . i mean being in the same place ..if you cant just forget about it ..long distance relation are consuming and hard ..believe me bettter to end it soon before finding your self stuck you cant be with him and you can proceed without him ..you would look behind and say ..i wasted lots of time from my life !

You make it work both of you. Its a two way street so you both have to work at it and its difficult but eventually you will both hopefully work it out and live together somewhere. So you call each other regulary or sms or e-mail etc. and send each other little gifts or something. It will work if you both work at it.
