Is there government sick pay, does the company have to pay or is it dependent upon profession and contract? Thnaks in advance.

Hi

If her company have a scheme in place she may be entitled to full pay whilst on sick for a certain length of time but she will have to check her contract.

Otherwise she will be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay but this does not count for the first three days of absence and after that it is something like £60-70 per week.

She CANNOT go back to work when a doctors sick not has been issued as this is illegal. If she is adament she wants to return to work before the sickness period has lapsed she must visit her doctor and get him to declare her fit for work.

GOod luck x

She needs to ask her employer if she will be recieving statutory sick pay, if not, then what percentage of her normal salery.

She is entitled to Statutory sick pay which is payed by her employer (then claimed back by the employer from the tax office).
She needs to provide a doctors sick note each week she is off work and she is not entitled to any money for the first three days off sick. Statutory sick pay is about £50 - 60 per week.

another option is too call the DHSS.

The reason the doctor gives a 'sick note' is for the employers to pay her for the time she was off-sick. That money is due to her and rightfully hers.

No need to worry. Hope she deals with what is stressing her and she recovers soon.

Its up the company she works for, if her contract states she gets sick pay then she will - she needs to contact her head office or personnel department to find out.

They should still get paid. If you are in the UK look at the UCAS website - it's full of useful information. Unless she has something written into her contract about sick pay she should be OK - I know after a long period (I think it's something like six months) a normal salary could be stopped.

if you are a permanent member of staff then yes your company has to pay you a full wage with a doctors note for a certain amount of time. your friend should check her contract because the terms will vary from company to company.

yes, its called workers compensation, you don't have to injure yourself at work to get comp. if for any reason you are unable to work get a note from your doc. take it to workers comp. and you will get paid. its only 60% of your wage but its better than nothing. think about this... you pay into comp. from every cheque but if you never collect it you never get it back.... that is WRONG

if her employer offers short term disability then she might get paid but it usually takes a little bit to go through
