Thats pretty insulting.

No it is not.

I'm not a Hindu, I'm a Western (non practising) Christian but have grown up around Hindus and their religion.

They do not worship "100 Gods" or any other such rubbish. They worship One God in many different forms - just as one person can be "Father, Son, Brother, Husband, Nephew, Friend, Boss, Dave" etc depending on whose point of view you look at it from (his children, his parents, his siblings etc) so is God to Hindus.

I see their scriptures as being no more mythological than the Bible. Many of the stories are morals, like Jesus' parables. They are not meant to be taken literally, but as an example of how we should live. I studied Classical Indian dance from a young age and most of the dance pieces are based on stories from the Hindu Scriptures. I love them and find them comforting and inspiring.

Hinduism is not a "patriarchal" or Old Testament based religion as is Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and cannot be approached as such.

Hindu Faith is neither a Mythology nor a religion.Hinduism is one of the most ancient way to know yourself and the universe around you and within you.
Hinduism is somewhat a philosophy not really a religion nor a mythology. Hinduism starts from divine energy and ends till ...divine energy.
Yeap i know where you are getting confused. These modern ritual of so called Hindu's actually are not found in the ancient scriptures.Yeap Man's greed to gain power and control uses any mean for that. They modified the political stategies to gain control over the population,by implementing a more somewhat spiritual manner on the basis of hinduisim....And now look what has happened Hinduisim is divided into many sub-religions.
Lol even though hinduism is not a religion but a "way to know yourself"...now modern man as always misinterpreted the knowledge found in the scripture for their own personal benefits to control...

no more so than christianity. In fact the veda's their holy writing is a lot older than the bible and there was a flourishing civilisation in the indus valley long before anything in the west. I find their religion to be full of rich and colourful stories and history aswell as a strong moral code without all the doom, gloom and sexist blame that you find in the bible.
Maybe if Hindu was the dominant religion in the west there would of been a lot less wars in the name of religion as it is much more tolerant and inclusive of other faiths and teachings.

Hindu faith may be a myth to you just as Islam, Christianity etc. may be a myth to the Hindus. It is a matter of faith.

Hinduism is not really a religion but a way of life...it is profound and yes may seem diffrent from other major religions......i have found my asnwers by reading The Rig Veda, it is d oldest sripture of the Hindu's ...btw, i m a hindu but i dont believe in Idol worship...Swami Vivekananda said " worshiping God through Idols is fine but worshiping Idols as god is not"...ultimatly hinduism does not believe in crores of gods but in one God...i havent found him yet....lol..looking.....but yes, if u want to find the real hinduism u have to look beyond the Mythology...

My family background is mainly Hindu. I have read many epics and I see that there are many contradictions. But I don't see why it is any different from other religions.

Not being a Hindu I'm not fully aware of the religion but from the small amount I have heard about, much of it seems to be based on Myths.
