I shopped around when looking for my pups insurance and More than gave the best quote, be sure to ask when you take it out if the will exclude conditions at renewal that you have claimed for in the previous year, if they do and your dog has a re-curring problem or a problem linked to it then you will end up paying for it yourself. Don't know if Morethan do this at renewal as still have not got round to organising it!

Try getting as much information as you can on a number of different insurance companies - you have quite a number recommended already.
Read up and compare the type of cover as well as the price.
Some companies might be cheaper but you could find that the cover isn't as good.
On some insurances they cover you for twelve months at a time so if your dog develops an ongoing condition they might exclude it altogether on renewal or ask you to pay the excess each year.
My dog has a chronic condition which is covered by Petplan but I have to pay £80 excess each year as well as my hefty premiums! Unfortunately I can't use another company because they will exclude his 'pre-existing condition'
Others will automatically exclude on age ( not that you need to worry about that yet).
Once you decide it might be worth your while to shop around - a bit like you do with car insurance to find the best offer.

i insured my dog with direct line up 'till my last renewal - but then they hiked the premiums up by nearly 50%. They refused to alter the quote so I cancelled and went with Sainsburys (who offer a good policy &benefits) instead - saved myself a bundle. Also they offered a free year's membership of a lost pet registry scheme.
Hope this helps

Best bet is Dogs Trust. Become a supporter as well. They do so much good and offer full coverage. Lets hope you won't need to call on the insurance.

We are with more than also, we were with the kennel club which hiked their prices up so went to sainsburys who a year later also hiked them up....
You can get many online quotes its just a case of sitting yourself down and going through a few..
Congratulations on your puppy..

My dog is insured with the Dogs Trust (formerly the NCDL). Although we got her from there do don't have to have got the dog there. They are very fast at paying out if it should happen and also very helpful.

Some policies pay the vet directly, some expect you to pay then refund you. The first is better for everyone! Your vet may be able to suggest who they have least problems with when it comes to claiming...!

I have my dog insured by Direct Line, if you go to Tesco they are underwritten by direct line and it will cost you a bit more as Tesco takes their bit
