I have a lot of sympathy with you. I am one of those BIG MOUTHS at work who will most probably aks : SO WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO?
I do it, not because I am nosy, but simply because I am interested and would not mind other people knowing where I go. I do however understand that some people might (for very good reasons), not want me to know where I go.
Should they therefor say: Well nowhere special, OR something similar, I will realise they do not want to discuss it and will move on. If I do not get the hint, I hope you will say to me: I would prefer not to discuss it.
Hope this helps. It is your choice what you share about your life.

OH BOY, I LOVE MYSTERIES!!
You have to have a good story or they will be on to you.
Are you slipping away to get secretly married?
A passionate rendevous with someone your family may not approve of?
A place several of the family would like to go and you just don't feel like having all that company?
You need to keep all your travel plans locked away either in a case in your car or a fireproof safe in the house. Hide any tickets or maps or brochures there and if you use the computer for such things you will need to delete the history and cookies.
Good luck...

i am in the same boat as you, i just tell people that i may take some "day trips" on the road to shopping areas or areas of interest like museums or something like that, Just say mainly that you are happy to get away from work for awhile, and that may change the subject back to something else. That way you are not really lying and at the same time you dont have to give details.

I would tell them I'm just going on a much-needed personal getaway. If they keep asking then THEY are being rude, so I wouldn't worry about being rude in return. Tell 'em it's none of their business.

Keep all info to yourself until the day before or the day of your trip and just give your emergency contacts (pick one or two people) some basic info. where, how long, flight #, hotel, & phone # (if you plan to carry your cell). That's in case if anything were to happen to you, you would want at least somebody to know and hope they would make effort to try to get in contact with you.

tell them it's a self discovery relaxation vacation and you're not sure what your mind and body will need but you'll give them the update when you come back. that will give enough detail and still make it obviously personal so they are likely to not ask you any more questions about it.

Plan to visit their house. They won't be rude even then. And you want to give them a surprise by not telling them about it. Good thing. But make sure you visit a friend's house who has a hotel near to it. Good advice is'nt it?

That's easy. You just tell them you're not sure and still thinking where you wanna go. No one needs to know. And when the day comes just leave and send them a postcard.
