RECENTLY I VISITED A LAB TO GET MY MALARIAL TEST DONE, BUT I NOTICED THAT THE LAB TECHNICIAN HAD FRESH BLOOD STAINS ON HIS GLOVES WHEN HE INSERTED A NEW BUTTERFLY NEEDLE INTO MY VEIN. HE HAD OPENED THE NEW NEEDLE AND UNWINDED THE PLASTIC TUBE WITH THOSE BLOOD STAINED GLOVES. ALSO THE TIP OF THE NEEDLE HAD TOUCHED THE PLASTIC TUBE BEFORE HE INSERTED THE SAME INTO MY VEIN..I AM VERY MUCH CONCERNED AND SCARED THAT IF THOSE BLOOD STAINS ON HIS GLOVES CARRIED HIV GERMS THEN CAN I ACQUIRE HIV GERMS THRU THIS MODE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW THAT WHAT SHOULD I DO? IS THERE A NEED TO GET MYSELF TESTED. WHICH TEST DO I HAVE TO GO FOR? I SINCERELY NEED HELP AND AM SCARED TO DEATH.

Tell your Doctor ASAP. He/She will advise you of the appropriate tests and what you will need to do.

Well you have a right to be worried and upset. The tech definately should have changed gloves before taking your blood. The chances of you getting HIV from the dirty gloves is very small as HIV does not live long outside the body (usually only a few seconds) but my worry would be that you could get Hepatitis B or C from the contaminated gloves. I would recommend getting your Hep B shot and the HBIG from your doctor, this will help to prevent you from getting the Hepatitis B. I am not sure if there is anything they can do for Hepatitis C but I would definately tell your doctor what happened. Both of these (Hep B and C) are transmissible by blood and can live outside the body long enough for you to be concerned. Next time you have a concern about a tech, nurse or doctor is not practicing clean technique with you request they change their clothes and wash their hands. It is your right as a patient to request this and they should comply without a problem though they may be annoyed, your health is more important than their feelings.

I hope this helps you out.

It is very likely that what you saw was iodine/betadine rather than blood. Blood is bright red, where iodine is a deeper dark red, and is always used for various reasons in clinics. Especially when blood is being drawn.

Don't hesitate to get an HIV test if it will put you at ease. Any clinic or your personal physician can order the screening. Just explain the situation and that you'd like an HIV test done.

They will explain the maximum lapse between exposure and infection, and let you know when you should retest and for how long.
It is important that you understand the policy most places have on informing you of the results. Regardless of whether the test is positive or negative, they will NOT give you the results over the phone. You have to schedule an appointment to receive them in person. So don't freak out when they call and say you need to come back in.

Your Dr needs investigated that is a very dangerous practice I would get tested for everything just in case I know hepatitis could be spread that way as it can be spread by toothbrushes, nail clippers, razors etc.he should have and must change his gloves you should have told him right then never let anyone touch you if they have blood on them and are attempting to give you a shot or take blood if the blood gets on your needle you could get infected Good Luck

HBV can only b caused by this method. A single drop of blood or even d blood present on d needle can cause HBV. HBV is an acute disease with high liver degenerative power. Its a severe infection. So it shud b checked immediately.

Its probably nt d HIV infection.

Go for Liver function tests.

Good L+u+c+k !!!!

Are you from the U.S. or I should say Was this in the U.S.?

What in the world did you let him even come near you with those gloves on?

Go right now to the phone and call your doctors office. Better yet, go there in person, tell them you want to see the doctor right now and explain to him what your telling us, right now.

Jump up on his desk, yell, holler and scream but let him know what happen and demand another test for everything in the book.

Then call the health department and let them know what happen. This person should be fired from the job right now, immediately.

What a dodgy doctor, i feel for you.
I think you should go for a test just to put your mind at ease but if you dont want to go give blood at the Australian Red Cross, they have to test the blood to make sure it's fine before they use it, If there is anything wrong they will let you know!
I'm sure your fine but good luck anyway!!!

You should have asked him to change his gloves and wash his hands or asked for some elce to draw your blood. When it comes your health you need to be very cousios. You need to go back there and speak with asupervisor and let them know what happened. Then they can guide you in the right direction.

That guy should be fired. You should have yelled, jumped up and called attention to it then. Now, tell his boss. The 'doing' time was when it was about to happen. Now all you can do is wait for any ill effects. Document it with the hospital or lab, tho.
