A toy one?
Do you really want to get a dog for your 1 year old daughter? That seems a lot of responsibility to me. Why not wait til she is older and can take more ownership of a dog.
That and the fact if you get a pup, it will need to be toilet trained, which will inevitable involve accidents and poo and 1 year olds don't mix!
Surely a 1 year old on its own is time consuming enough without adding a puppy into the equation?
If you get an older dog it might not have been around children before and that is a scary thought.
In my opinion, i would wait til your daughter is older.

DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF 'DJICE_04'.
Those dogs are TOTALLY unsuitable for an inexperienced adult to say noting of a TODDLER!
But if u wish your child to be attacked by a dog-these dogs would be a good choice. They are not violent as a rule, it's just that children do not no how to act around a dog, and these breeds can be....sensitive.......but they are not vicsous dogs. I have a German Shepherd x Rottweiler, and she is perfectly harmless and is so submissive! My friend has a Bull Dog called Scamp, and he's very gentle.
BUT STILL NOT A GOOD CHOICE FOR A TODDLER
>>>>>Bearded Collie, Boxer, Golden Retriever, Labrador, Miniature Schnauzer, Shetland Sheepdog, Standard Poodle, Yorkshire Terrier and the Flat - Coated Retriever are all good choices for young children.<<<<<
Toddlers are at higher risk for a dog bite than older children, because toddlers don’t know how to read dog language. They don’t know, for example, that dogs may not like to have a bone taken away, or what it means when a dog stiffens, flinches or growls. It works both ways: Toddlers are unpredictable. They lurch and grab, and dogs can feel uneasy about their behaviour.
So, you need to teach your toddler to be gentle. You need to praise the dog for being calm and tolerant, and make sure his play and exercise time is not neglected. But the bottom line remains: Dogs, even friendly dogs, and toddlers should always be supervised because you just don’t know.

Hmm, you're struck with a really hard decision there.
German Shepherd? Bulldog? Irish Wolfhound? Bichon Frise? Maybe a nice designer breed like a Spoodle or a Labradoodle?
None!!
If your daughter is one year old, how is she going to look after the dog? Is she going to be the one taking it for walks? Feeding it? Grooming it? Taking it to obedience classes and house-training it?
If you want to get a dog for your daughter; I would strongly suggest a cute little stuffed toy.
If you want to get a dog for your family; I would suggest looking up different breeds through www.dogbreedinfo.com and taking the test or quiz (whatever you decide to call it) so it can try and match your lifestyle with some breeds (includes hybrids - mix dog breeds and designer breeds).

No-one but no-one gets a live dog for a one year old child.
Can she train it ? feed it? exercise it? pick up after it? take it to the vet? groom it?
Your little girls present could live for 15 or 16 years.
If you are thinking of getting a dog it must be for you not your daughter.
There are many lovely breeds to choose from that are good with children but it is YOUR responsibility to keep your child safe and supervise her at all times. Never leave your child and dog in the same room alone.
Many children get injured by dogs but the only ones that seem to make the headlines are the much maligned Rottweilers and Doberman or similar breeds.
I recently got a ticking off from Yahoo for insulting an asker who was thinking of getting a German Shepherd for her toddler for Christmas.
I've been more restrained with your question but I strongly disagree with parents giving their children pets that they are too young to care for, particularly at Christmas.

A stuffed dog of any breed you wish.
Like your daughter will have anything to do with the care of a real dog at the moment.
If you insist on a real dog, believe it or not, American Staffeshire Terriers are AWESOME with children...the younger the better. But remember regardless of the dog and breed/s, dogs and children MUST be supervised for everybody's safety. Don't be another dog killed child statistic.

There is no kind of dog you can get for a 1yr old
They are too young, and don't even know what responsibility means.
I suggest you wait til she is alot older before you decide to get a dog.
Remember a dog is not a toy that you can throw away when you get bored with it, it is for life!

I have had a lot different breeds of dogs but the Labrador Retriever has by far impressed me the most. They are the most loving, loyal, friendliest dogs you can find. They are the most used dogs in service work because of their loyal loving personalities, they high degree of trainability, and their versatility. They not only adore kids but are extremely tolerant of them. They are easy to train and will do anything to be loved by their master.

A one year old is too young to buy her a dog. What were you thinking?
Regardless of breed, you're just asking for doctor bills. At that age, they are just eye pokers and ear pullers. Sounds like a bite waiting to happen !!!
When she is old enough to clean up steamy piles and understands 'responsibility', then consider adopting a pup for her.

i would say a toy one too. 1 years is too young to have a dog and that means a lot more of work around the house for you. wait untill she is at least 4 or even 5.
