First thing you do is go down and talk to a recruiter. If you decide to join you enter a program called Delayed Entry Program(DEP). There are a few things you do during DEP. They try to teach some begining stuff like general orders, ranks, and marching. Most programs have weekly meeting where you get together to learn and start getting in shape. There is a book that you try to get done. You also get sent to a MEPS station to take the ASVAB, get a physical, and choose your job. There are contracts and stuff to fill out there. You get sworn in the first time you go there. You can still change your mind after that. Then right before boot camp you get sent to MEPS again and you get sworn in again.

All the boring repetitious tasks like polishing ur boots ro cleaning the mess and doing the dishes will build discipline so they are not actualy meaningless. They are teaching you patience and perserverance. Something that is missing in our society these days. How many kids get up and make ther beds these days? Or polish their boots or iron their clothes? Or even open the dor of a car for a lady? We should bring back national service I reckon?

A lot of lies. They tell you only the glamorous part. They neglect to tell you the part about no longer having rights and that 90% of your time will be spent doing meaningless trivial mundane laborous chores and that the repetition will drive you nuts.
