Place a small piece of aluminum foil in the microwave for 30 seconds before using it. This will definitely preheat it.

If you have a normal microwave oven, you can bake a cake in it. I have done it many times. My favorite is Angelfood cake in the microwave but be sure to have a microwave safe cake pan. The top will be a little moist so you won't be able to tell from looking at it when the cake is done. I have done it with boxed white cake mixes, chocolate cake mixes, and cakes from scratch. It makes the texture like an Angelfood cake. That's just what it does. It's very good. You don't preheat, you just stick it in there and cook it on high for 7-9 minutes. Hopefully your microwave has a revolving plate. Don't need a convection microwave - works fine in a regular one. I even have mixes made for the microwave of Angel Food cake mix. Don't remember where I got them but I believe I got them with the microwave safe Angelfood cake pan.

if you are following a recipes that says preheat your oven, don't use a microwave for that recipe. If you are just curious about preheating a microwave you don't!

PREHEATING in a micro is done only if you have a micro/convectional oven/grill. ENSURE your settings are on the convectional oven and then you can pre heat it according to your recipe requirement.

If your microwave is also a conventional oven, then that's what it mean. But if it is just a microwave, no need to.

You need to pre-heat a convential oven, but not a micro-wave. It works in a completely different way.
