Do you have lip gloss? (NOT lipstick--that will make it worse!) Lip gloss isn't as good as chapstick, but it works in an emergency. This will sound gross, but if it really hurts (I know my lips sometimes do!) then use just a bit of shortening (like Crisco) or even just cooking oil temporarily, until you can get chapstick. Wouldn't recommend butter so much--you'll lick your lips, which makes them feel worse. And heck...body lotion might work--your lip's skin too, after all. Good luck--I know that can drive you crazy!

If you have an aloe plant break off a leaf and put the solution on your lips- it is also good for major burns from boiling water, etc. If you dont have one and you dont have vaseline- try baby oil, or really desperate- olive oil- of course moisturing lipsticks also work but not as well the best is Burt's bees.

Apply any kind of lip balm or petroleum jelly you can also try coating your lips with skin moisturizer, vitamin e-oil or aloe Vera gel. These greasy product help keep your lip properly moisturized. Hope this helps : )

In an extreme emergency and nothing else around and, I was in Alaska without anyone for miles I would use cooking oil or, Crisko lard, better than nothing. Your the one that said it was an emergency.

Hydrating your body will help. Stay way from salty things. You can try lotion to help soften and relieve the pain, particularly if you have lotion with aloe or vitamin A or E. Good luck!
