Ramadan
ADVERTISEMENT
(rämädän´, răm´´dän´) , in Islam, the ninth month of the Muslim year, during which all Muslims must fast during the daylight hours. Indulgence of any sort is forbidden during the fast. There are only a few who are exempt, e.g., soldiers, the sick, and the young. Because of the purely lunar calendar, Ramadan falls in different seasons. The final day of Ramadan, Id al-Fitr, is celebrated by a day of feasting. The first revelation of the Qur'an is commemorated in this month.

Of course I do, sir. Any muslim, man woman or child, knows what this is. It is a time when we try to be better than usual and fast for the sake of feeling what those who can not afford food feel. It is a humbling event for every muslim that manages to do it. It is a lot like the christian christmas, thanksgiving, and easter all rolled into one. On Eid, we give out the majority of our meat to the poor, try to provide clothing, and do our very best in everything. We also try to read the entire Quran in this month, and on a few nights are supposed to stay up the whole night reading the Quran. This is a tradition our beloved Prophet (PBUH) has sent down generation after generation. I love Ramadan.

Ramadan is that month of the Muslim calendar, that if you are not a Muslim yourself you should avoid to be in a Muslim country. The tricky thing is that Ramadan is moving according to the moon so you should always ask in advance: When is Ramadan?
