* I know this may sound humerous to some, but please do not waste my time (or yours) making immature jokes *. . . I have to use the bathroom several times per day-we are talking 3, 4, sometimes up to 6 or 7 times PER DAY! . . .Could this be dangerous?. . . Or an indication of another problem?. . . Does anyone with a healthcare background or medical knowlege know how this may affect my health. Just to be clear, this is NOT diahrrea; the stool is normal consistency. My Mom says it's good (indicates fast metabolism, doesn't allow possible carcinogens to linger, etc), but I'm still a little worried because, while normal for ME, this seems very abnormal compared to most people.

Well, there are a few things you should consider...

Have you been losing any weight? Are you having abdominal pain? Any blood in the stool? Mucus, pus, oil? Taken antibiotics before this happened? Any of these could indicate a problem.

One major concern is malabsortion...your mother is off the mark even though she's is thinking along the right lines. Most carcinogens would have been absorbed and into circulation before feces is formed. Of more concern is if you are gaining all of the nutrients that you need.

Heck, could be a fast variety of things...irritable bowel disease, infection, celiac disease, etc.

You really should have a lower endoscopy performed, as well as stool tests.

Basically, you really should see your doctor...better safe than sorry if nothing else. In my limited professional opinion as a nursing student, you really do need to see your primary care doctor and see what is going on here. If there is a problem with your digestive tract and it's serious, this is something you want to nip in the bud now. Any idea what a stoma is? Go to the yahoo browser, type in the word "stoma" and click the images button for your search.

Now ask yourself, do you want to live with a stoma when you could have prevented it? Or worse yet, where the stoma would be the lucky alternative to death.

Please see your doctor, just in case.

My first questions would be about your diet...what are you eating on a regular day? Do you drink a lot of caffeine? Fiber foods? Fatty foods? Vegetables? Are there any other symptoms present such as cramping? Abdominal pain? Change in appetite? Weight loss or gain? Sometimes frequent bowel movements can be a sign of a thyroid problem.

If you are very concerned I would make an appointment with your doctor for a full check up.

You are right to be concerned since as you know, it isn't normal. Your mother is mistaken, bless her. It's probably Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which appears to be a result of a very high bacteria count in your large intestine. There is a new antibiotic that has shown great promise; one name for it is rifaximin. It's a prescription medication so you need to speak to your physician about it. A ten-day course of the antibiotic appears to relieve the symptoms fo up to a year.
By the way - tell your mother that frequent bowel movements do not protect against cancer. That's just another old wives' tale.

i would say your mom is right, as long as you don't have runny, black,(indicating bleeding), or otherwise abnormal stool, i would not worry about it...In fact you are probably lucky to be ridding your intestines of stool that often,,my question though is how much, how often, and what do you generally eat?. Since what goes in has to come out, sounds like you eat more than enough and are eating the right things, good luck to you..

It does sound like the symptoms of a fast metabolism, but u can never be sure so just get a check up. It can maybe indicate a change in your diet too.

This may not sound like I know what the cause is, but I'd highly suggest seeing a doctor. Why worry about it and get answers from total strangers when you can actually personally see a doctor who would better put your mind at ease? Sorry I couldn't tell you if there's anything wrong, but I can tell you that does sound rather abnormal to me. Then again, what do I know?

My boyfriend craps like a hundred times a day. He said he went to the doctor and all he said was that *as long as there is no blood in your ***** and, like you said, normal consistency, then you are o-kay. If you're still freaked out by it, go to a doctor and get some advice from him/her. That's the only person who can eliminate your fears entirely.

See your doctor and get a referral to a gastroenterologist. This could be caused by any number of gastro-intestinal disorders eg, Crohn's, coeliacs or irritable bowel syndrome - all can be easily managed. Or it could be nothing. Either way you need to know. Get a proper diagnosis.
