Thats simple. Either you buy a dvd (region 4) that will play on any dvd player in Australia. Or you buy any region dvd and that person will have to use multiregional dvd player. Or if that person has a europian dvd player you can buy any dvd in UK (region 2).

I believe that Australia is in region 4 whereas in the UK we are region 2 and USA is region 1. If your friend has a mulit region enabled DVD player then they will be able to play it. You could always try to order the DVD off an Australian site to ensure it is in the right region for them for instance Australian Amazon site?

I believe Australia is region 4 (in DVD speak) and not all multi region players can actually play all regions. Perhaps an H.M.V. or similar gift token might be safer.
