I Corinthians chapter 15 is talking about the resurrection to life of the saved. There are two resurrections, see John 5:29 "the resurrection of life and the resurrection of condemnation." I Corinthians is speaking of the first one, and how we will all receive glorified bodies, but none the same.
No one is resurrected according to their works, we are saved by grace alone. Ephesians 2:8-9 says this.

The reward is the glorified immortal body, which we receive in the resurrection. These other verses are comparing Adam the sinner, with the Second Adam (Jesus Christ). Look at I Corinthians 15:45, the first Adam was made a living soul, but the second was a life giving soul.

I think these verses are just refering to the fact that when we are resurrected, our bodies will not be the same as our earthly bodies... we will be raised with spiritual bodies. There will be two resurrections... one of the dead and one of the living. You will get all kinds of view on this, as to whether both resurrections happen at the same time, at what time in history these will happen compared to the tribulation, etc. About the "sun, moon and stars" thing, I don't know if that means that some people will be raised in a "shameful" resurrection or if it just means that when we are raised we will all have different spiritual bodies: just like here on earth we are all unique, when we are in heaven it will be the same. Personally I would lean towards the second, I've never heard the idea of a 'shameful resurrection' before reading your question. Resurrection does happen instantly. If you read later in the chapter, vs 51-52 it says "Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed" so it will happen instantly.

From what you say, I think your pastor is over-spiritualizing these verses. I see no scriptural reason why "the glory of the sun" should be assumed to be the resurrection of Jesus.

I would get confused, too!!!

My understanding is that the resurrection is instantaneous, the trumpet shall sound, the dead shall rise from the graves, some to everlasting life and some to everlasting destruction. I think this is simple clear bible teaching.

There are many indications in the bible that there will be different rewards and degrees of punishhments.... but there is alot we don't know and won't know until THAT DAY.

God bless!!

Your pastor is correct......

There is a Scripture which Christ speaks with regards to Old wine in New wine skins.....

symbolically speaking, the "new wine" is the spirit of man that is resurrected.... and the "wine skin", is the new body which is given men anew.....

we are given new bodies for the resurrected body.......

Matthew 9:17
Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

and likewise... the Old Garment.....

Mark 2:21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

He speaks of creating the human body.... using a new spirit body, for an old body or, rather, the one that we have now that perishes..... It says that the new spirit body will fill it up and the old perishing body shall perish still and make it worse because what's inside is new...... In other words, both will go bad, again....

So, 1 Corinthians 15th chapter speaks of a body which God shall created the resurrected body, one that does not perish... a new "cloth"......

But, some will not be worthy enough to receive even that.... Why make a new "cloth" for someone who doesn't deserve it?!!!!.... so yeah... they're going to hear some words.....!!!

as far as i can see the passage is merely saying that our body after the Resurrection will be different to our body now. verses 51 and 52 say "we will all be changed - in a flash in a twinkling of the eye, at the last trumpet. for the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed". if you haven't already i would advise you to read 15 v 35 to the end or even the whole of chapter 15.

may God bless you and may you know more of his awesome love for you with every day that passes. amen.

Uhmmm Let me see if I can answer this one.... I think that when resurrection happens it happens only in the dy of judgement. How ever we do not know how long that day would be exactly, because time and space is different from God. (i.e the days of creation and normal human days)

In Islam we are told everyone will ressurrect the dead will have their book of deeds with them and God will judge~ There will be many rewards degreeas as well as punishment depending on what you did. And you will be judge alone!

You might want to ask Mormon missionaries to clarify that verse for you. They would have a different take on it altogether. Have a happy day.
