Very well written. And instead of just writing it here you should voice your opinions to legislators and representatives who can make a difference in the laws.
The people who answered obviously don't understand the importance of the grandparent in the child's life. Often in divorces, chidlren are ripped from one set of grandparents who love and cherish them....never to see them again. Grandparents should have rights to see their grandchildren in the case of divorce and other matters as long as they are fit and loving.
Very eloquently written.

As a women who left the home at 15 for a better life. I think grandparents rights are crap. (I am from Illinois where this whole issue start but I moved to CA 3 years ago). My mom is an alcoholic and drug abuser, even was while pregnant with her children. She thinks welfare is a right because she is lazy and doesn't want to work.

I have so much in my life and my son is wonderful. The fact that a judge would undermind my decision for her not to know I have children let alone see them would cause me to go insane. I know how much of a negative effect she would bring into not only my life but my son's. I will not let her leave a print on his life like she has forever on mine.

Sorry I don't think grandparents should legally have rights to court order visitations. Guess as someone who grew up like I did I don't think I could believe any other way.

I admit I skimmed... but I'm actually more for the rights of the parents than for the grandparents. If child abuse/neglect is occuring, then of course I would support grandparents who would like to remove the child from the setting... otherwise, parents rights should trump. Grandparents who chose to raise their children differently than how they see their grandchildren being raised need to realise that mistakes are always made when it comes to child rearing, and 'normal' mistakes need to be looked past. That's a great way to push your children away, and hence your grandchildren. You didnt give birth to your grandchildren, you shouldnt have much say in their upbringing. That's how I feel, at least.

I think that "some" grandparents should have rights, especially when children are being used as pawns to hurt people just because they are mad or not getting their way. I believe as the grandparents are found fit, they should have rights.
Now in my case my mom died in "1994", And my dad does not see his grandchildren, well my girls, because he is a drug addict, selfish and has abused alot of ppl. So NO I don't give him the right he is unfit. He was also an unfit father but my mom stayed with him, they were married 26 yrs, then she died.

i imagine it truly relies upon on the topic. i will see each and every aspect of the placement also. If dad is a nut interest and purely protecting the children away to be advise it truly is one element and that i imagine the grandparents might want to be able to work out them. although, i'm in a topic like your the position never do I ever pick my in-guidelines to visual reveal unit my baby. She truly even knows them and so that they pull "stupid" stunts. perchance the purely contract right here will be for the courts to be able to order supervised visitation with the make sure contemporary. this way the make sure responsible controls the topic.

Wellyou seem to be a cotented person. However the rights of the child are wholly and absolutely in the hands of the parents.Grandparents can't overrule these rights.Unless some serious abuse of the child occurs.Better to be a doting papa and respected your off spring.

i live in a commonwealth state. no such thing as grandparents' rights, here.
we raise our children the best we can. if they don't want us being parents to their children , i have not problem with it. i can't . i'm the one who raised my children to be who they are. good or bad. if i was not allowed into my grandchildrens' lives (which i AM) i could only blame myself for raising my children to be 'like that'.

Grandparents don't have rights in my eyes. Seeing their grandchildren is a privilege NOT A RIGHT! And a privilege can be taken away.
