The taste would be different, but still compatible if you use:
lemon pepper plus salt

I can't believe there was no celery salt. Thats really common stuff! Did you look in the spice isle? Maybe try finley minced fresh celery. Celery salt has alot of salt in it. And It really doesn't taste like celery either. Sorry, I really can't think of any other seasoning alternative. If you have time, I would phone a couple stores near you, make sure they carry it and get some celery salt. Once you taste it, you will see what I mean. Good luck! And yummy for you asparagus soup! I just looked at my bottle of "Old bay Seasoning" and the first thing in that is Celery salt. Celery salt is Salt and crushed Celery seeds it says. If you have "Old Bay" I would sub. that Good luck. :D

Some common substitutes for celery are bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, leeks...but the soup will be just fine without any of these. You can use courgette, but it isn't the same. Celery retains its crispness (to an extent) during cooking, adding texture to the finished product. Courgette, or zucchini as we know it in the US, will soften considerably during the cooking. It would add a nice flavor, and a bit of textural difference in your soup. It definitely wouldn't hurt.

If you have celery seed use some of that instead along with regular salt. Garlic or seasoned salt would work just as well though.
