The international dialing code for the U.S. is 1. The U.S. does not have "state codes" - it has area codes, which are three digits long. Large cities will have several area codes.
So you will need to dial your country's international dialing code (00 in most of Europe, for example), then 1, then the area code, then the phone number:
+1-xxx-yyy-zzzz
If you don't have the area code, you won't be able to place the call.

The country code is 001, but there isn't a state code in the U.S. - we use 3-digit area codes, which are specific to a region smaller than a state (or even a large city). For example, if you are calling Dallas, TX, the area code could be 214, 469 or 972, while if you are calling Houston, TX, the area code could be 281, 713, or 832. Other cities or areas in Texas would have yet other area codes.

It depends on what country you are calling from. Also, Texas has many different area codes. Call directory assistance and they will tell you what the country code is. Numbers in the US typically have 10 numbers which include the area code which is a 3 digit number. Good luck.
