At least 30min each time. Cardio is intensive aerobics and aerobics is light cardio. You should do aerobics not cardio to lose fat.
Examples - brisk walking and jogging (at 65% to 75% of your max heart rate)

There are all sorts of cardio..... brisk walking or jogging, biking, playing tennis, swimming, aerobics, elliptical trainer, treadmill, rowing machine, dancing......... Do anything and everything 30 - 60 minutes, 5 or 6 days per week.
To get your 'fat burning' heart rate, subtract your age from 220 then multiply by 60%. Eg. If you're 20, then 220 - 20 = 200 x 60% = 120. If you're doing cardio, which is excellent exercise for the heart and lungs, you would increase your heart rate to about 140. It's actually good to do both, along with lifting weights, abdominal exercises like crunches and lying on the floor doing the 'bicycle', and yoga for flexibility. Remember NOT to eat junk food! :o)

A combination of resistance training and cardio will get the best results. Cardio will burn calories while you are working out only, for the most part, but resistance training will continue to burn calories after the workout, especially during recovery and rest phases (sleep and relaxing). Also, the more lean muscle on the body the more calories are burned to maintain those muscles.
Women don't need to worry about getting big bulky muscles like men since they don't have the testosterone levels - they'll just get toned. Also, cardio exercises, which employ type 1 muscle fibers (slow twitch) will somewhat hamper the development of type 2 fibers (fast twitch).
Adequate diet is important. Studies have shown more and smaller meals throughout the day actually keep the metabolism up and hence actually burn more calories.

The more cardio you do the more calories you burn and that will burn the most fat.
The exercise you pick should be one that you really like and that you'll be able to do daily without making excuses.
Keep in mind that if you burn 175 calories a day via exercise, it will take 3 weeks to lose 1 pound.
The best way to lose is by following a diet like Weight Watchers if you don't mind losing slowly or the Kimkins Diet if you prefer to lose quickly.
