I don't think it will matter. Paint is good at covering small imperfections in a surface. I think a little texturte underneath the mural would lend to it something special that a flat surface would not. I say go for it!

i am not in favor of painting the wall.... because after some time you may want to change the painting, or repaint the wall... better take ply/board, give proper primer coat, paint over it and get the same fixed on the wall with hooks so that if u repaint the house the painting can be easily removed

if the images in your mural are extremely detailed and you think that you might not like the way it looks then sand them but it sounds like you should be able to learn to distort a line over a slight rise or depression in the surface in order for it to look correct

Nah. The light texture is there to help cover up imperfections in the wallboard.

Yes then only new paint will sit properly, otherwise later on it may peel off.

another idea is to wallpaper it and paint over that- also easy to take off when you move
