You can split it up, especially if you're just starting an exercise regimen. The benefits of a short workout just depend on what you're trying to achieve.

Studies have proven for a fact that two, 15 minute bouts of exercise are just as beneficial as one, 30 minute session. This is true for exercise of any duration. If you have to split-up your session, by all means do it. You'll get the same benefit as someone doing it all at one time!

Some is better than none but doing it all at one time would be more beneficial I would think. I do 5 20 minute work out a day a day. Two walks, weights (alternating upper and lower), swimming and treadmill. While my weight loss has been minor I am getting in better shape.

probably not your heart and body need continous cycleing for it to really get a nice work out, even walkin 30 minutes a day, or doing yoga while watching "what not to wear" its all the same, but 30 minutes continued is best other wise walking around at work would be a work out,,,,,,,,,doesnt make sence but im not a doctor

Yes it can, but it is better if it is together. During the first ten minutes, not much fat is burned, it has to do with lactic muscles or something. Its just like warmning up but not working out. Sure its much better than nothing. But if you can, go for the 30 minutes at a time.

Not really you need sustained increase in heart rate for this period of time. When they say 30 minutes, they do not mention 15 minutes to warm up.
