I would start with a stick of butter, and then as you use your mixer to make them smooth, add the cream and milk to get the consistency that you want - note that it will set up a little once you stop mixing.

Assuming that five pounds of potatoes is about 10-12 medium sized spuds, I would put in about 65 mls (1/4 cup) of butter and just add milk a little bit at a time until they get to what looks like the right consistency. I think that if you were to add 375 mls (1 1/2 cups) of cream you would end up making Vichyssoise! Sounds like way too much liquid. You could forget using milk though and use some of the cream instead. Bon Apetit.

For 5 lbs potatoes, use 2 cups cream/half & half and 5 Tbsp butter.
So, to answer your question, looks like you would need another 1/2 cup of cream to do the job.

I put a stick of butter and about half a cup of milk. mash the potatoes, remember it is easier to add liquids than to try to get the potatoes dried out. just keep adding the mild until it is the desired consistency.

have been cooking for a long time and everyone loves what i cook and i tried Idahoan premium mashed potato's, they are the best, peeling, boiling and they mashing potato is a pain in the rear, and then after all that sometimes they come4 out like glue, forget it, all you do with the Idahoans is one cup of potato flakes and 2 cups of boiling water and thats it , I swear they taste better than homemadeand they come in all different flavors
