This summer I might be taking a trip to Italy, Greece, and Turkey. I don't think I have to worry about Italy or Greece too much (correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm not sure about what is modest/immodest in Turkey, since it is an Islamic country. So, what is the appropriate way to dress there? And if anyone's been there before, what is it like? Thanks!

Okay so I guess Turkey is not an Islamic country? That is just what I've heard from a couple places but I could be wrong. So if that's not true, sorry!!

Turkey is not an Islamic country. It's a secular democracy. You can wear whatever you want, same as the Europe or USA. Turkish people don't like it when you say the country is Islamic so there will be possibly some angry answers for your question. Don't get offended. Hope you enjoy your visit to Turkey.

Edit: doodle, Turkey is a muslim majority country, so most people are muslim but it's not a religion dominated country. Women have equal rights with men and most women don't wear headscarves , they dress like you. So feel free to wear anything you can wear in your country.

I love Turkey, and the people!

Dress however you like. If you go into the Mosques (which is a great experience as there are so many beautiful ones), wear clothing covering most of your arms, higher necks, and pants or skirts below the knees. Otherwise, wear what you want.

Anyway you want. Turkey is a secular country where most residents are Muslim. But it is not ruled by the laws of the religion per say like in Arab countries. You are free to do as you wish.

Unlike countries like Egypt and S. Arabia, where you have to be conservatively dressed, Turkey is different and you dress normally as you always do without having to think about what to wear or not to wear.

you may positioned on something ( not which incorporates jap region ) you prefer in western cities (city centre). additionally its alright to positioned on something you prefer alongside the beaches. yet inner aspects of Turkey are quite conversative its not something to cover. ( in rural aspects ). in all probability they wouldnt say something undesirable in spite of everything yet i think of you wouldnt be pleased with the villagers watching you. So attempt to not positioned on mini shorts and skirts. denims are ok in any area which incorporates east and west. in case you bypass to east, and that they stare at you, dont difficulty they're going to in all probability only stare and say some bitter candy words. No harrasment! yet i think of you will bypass to the villages around Ankara and specific they're conversative.

Actually you need to be very careful about what you dress in all three countries:

Italy: people dress like you see in the movie Gladiator. So don't forget to pack your sandals and sword.
Greece: here people dress white gowns and laurel wreaths.
Turkey: you will need to wear feathers like native americans and a 40 X 40 cm sticker on your chest saying that I am a foreigner and I am very ignorant of other cultures.

You can wear anything you want. Ladies wear tight pants/skirts and open tops with no problems.
