My Dad is a Hairdresser and my Mom is an Aesthetician, and aromatherapist so I have some expertise in this area finding things that help them.

A barrier cream is great for when working, but many of them are slippery, and they are a pain when holding scissors...but essential when colouring or perming.

Best thing is to find a good barrier cream for during the day. I advise talking to O.R. nurses, as they have a need for similar products and might be able to direct you to the best one.

A few years ago the best one was Protecto Derm, Ulcaire, it's got silicon in it as a barrier and it helps repel water, so your hands don't get as dry with all that hair washing and chemicals. In Canada it was distributed by Ingram & Bell medical in Don Mills, ON M3B 1L9. You could do a search on that too.

Then at night just before bed, use this product - Dream Cream - designed for gardeners - liberally on your hands and tired feet and calves.

Dream Cream - full of essential oils that help heal ths skin -

Yes I do, I have alot of skin issues from lymphedema and I use Kerodex for wet work, it's a cream you rub in that repels moisture and keeps your hands soft. Also using olive oil soap on a daily basis prevents chapped hands too.

Go to a farm supply store and get something called Udder or Bag Balm... they use it mainly on Dairy cows. It sounds gross, but it really works. Other than that, if you can stand it, before you go to bed at night, cover your hands with lotion and put a pair of gloves on over night. They say that works, but I've never been able to sleep with my hands covered, so I don't have first hand experience.

I had a friend who had a problem with really cracked hands, and I made a solution of aloe vera, lanolin, and cod liver oil in a food processor. I put it in a pair of latex gloves and he wore them for a couple hours a day. It cleared up in a week.

really glob on vaseline on your hands at bedtime. Then cover your hands with white cotton socks. May take occasional use during the winter.

They have a lotion/wax form of something they put on cow utters to soften them up. I used it on my hands overnight and I put it on my lips. It works within 2 hours. If you search it on the internet, something will come up.

I cut color perm shampoo hair too..........use gloves...............I found cuticle oil best.......I had hang nails....I used cuticle oil and in 2 days they were gone .
I thought why not use it for whole hands and feet...and it did good for me ...better than $30.00 creams.
