Both follow the Old Testament, but fail to agree on the new.....does this mean we should hurt each other?

Whole series of false assumptions here.

1. "Christians hate Muslims" is not categorically true. I personally know a number of Christians that live in predominantly Muslim countries, and love their Muslim neighbors.

2. "they have the same God" is also not true. Allah is substantially different in nature and character from Yahweh. Allah is the absolute ruler of a deterministic world; Yahweh interacts with humanity to reach His ends. Allah is a solitary deity; Yahweh is a trinity -- very important for undergirding the idea of a God who forms relationships and makes contracts with men. Allah can contradict and countermand his own words, and does not make contracts; Yahweh makes contracts and keeps them, and does not contradict His own words. There's more, but this will suffice.

3. "Both follow the Old Testament" is also not true. The Quran differs substantially from the Old Testament on a number of points.

4. "Does this mean we should hurt each other" is not a symmetrical question. A Christian will/should answer that with a resounding "NO!!" -- Jesus' kingdom is not of this world, and while we may fight for our respective countries, wars of religious conquest are out of bounds for followers of Jesus. A Muslim, on the other hand, may well answer with a string of Quran quotations about slaying infidels and with references to their Prophet's own example of doing the same.

Well I dont think we hate eachother, but our versions of God and the OT are very different. The OT shows that even the prophets of old were imperfect and not without sin... the Qu'ran has all prophets are sinless. The Qu'ran teaches that Adam and Eve were 50 ft tall (or close, I forget exactly) but the OT never stresses their sizes. Our OT has David being a man after God's own heart even though he was a sinner... the Qu'ran does not. The OT has Jacob rewarded the blessing because Esau was willing to trade the blessing for food, and the Qu'ran has Jacob being cursed and Esau being blessed.

There are a lot of differences between the 2... too many to say its the same book or the same God

As a Muslim this has been something i struggled with. my family is Christian and my grandmother has even stated that she believes all non-Christians will go to hell. this is very hard to hear when the Quran says such positive things about Christians and Jews

[2:62] Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Christians, and the converts; anyone who (1) believes in GOD, and (2) believes in the Last Day, and (3) leads a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their Lord. They have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve

***i think inshallah(God-willing) this will change once basic knowledge of Islam becomes a common things in western culture

peace to all

Good Question – semi-replied yourself!

Muslims believe in one God – The Almighty and Lord of the Universe.

There is none to claim divinity except the God of Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Yakoob and Moses. We believe Jesus Christ as a great prophet of God.

There are two main PROBLEMS to accept each other as two great religions of world:

1- Conspiracies of Jews against Christian faith and Islamic faith!

Judaism died with the crucifixion of Jesus but the fact is not yet accepted. They attack on both the faiths through many invisible means and tricks. Normally they sit in between and attack on our faiths and we both start fighting and hating each other!

Here! You may see many negative answers from Jews and you would never realize who is answering your question? Like.
No! we don’t worship the same God!
Some time they even deny existence of God!
Some time say Muslim God is not acceptable!
Muslim God is someone else! Or Satan! Or Devil!

Why they do so – Are they serving their religion by declining God???

Whenever we Muslim ask serious question from their Books: Torah and Talmud they do not reply properly - often make fun and tell irrelevant stories.

BE AWARE OF THIS SITUATION…this will reduce the hate between the True followers OF Islam and Christianity.

2-We believe in Jesus since Noble Quran has unfolded many prophecies of OT – the foretold miraculous birth of Jesus (Isaiah 9:09) and coming of an Unlearned Prophet(Muhammad)in Isaiah 21:11 Read this, and he saith “I cannot” for it is sealed.

Isaiah 21.12 And the Book is delivered to him but is not learned, saying:” Read this”, I pray thee: and he saith “I am not learned”.

Jews have made many alterations in Torah and say that their prophets can sleep with own daughters… because they are involved in this sin.

We Muslims cannot believe such lies!!! All prophet of god are sinless.

Christians do not accept Muhammad as “the unlearned” prophet of God – OK!
Christians do not accept Muhammad as “Another Helper” prophet – OK!

It does not make any difference in Islamic world. 1.4 Billion Already believe him!

Fals/True prophets can be identified with his FRUITS!

Non-acceptance is not a problem but the HATE is a serious problem which brings clashes of two great Faiths. May God (Allah, Jehovah, Yahweh) save us from Hate? Amen!

Christians and Muslims do not believe in the same God! The God that they serve claims to have no son and the God christians serve which is the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob has a Son. Muslims may beleive in Moses and Abraham and others that we believe but their gospel is differant than ours. And no we shouldn't hate anyone, but they, (those who follow Islam and the radical Islamic teachings) sure do hate christians and Jews and Israel!!!!!!!

I will answer this question in the context of human nature rather than religion. It is human nature to fall trap to negativity over and over again. By forgeting your origin and creating an artificial reality, we willingly hand over power to 'Satan'. This negative force which exist in the realm of the mind, rules the minds of people who instill hatred, jealousy, resentment, egotism, greed, undue attachment to materiality and the like.
Peace is not out these somewhere but within you. If you don't know how to get to the source of your origin then look for help through these websites:

True Christians do not hate the Muslims. It is the Muslims that persecute Christians. and Christians are just wary and are avoiding violence.
Have you ever heard of Christians persecuting Muslims?
Muslims believe in the Virgin Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary of whom gave birth to Jesus.
But then Muslims don't believe in Jesus as the only begotten son of God. To them He is just one of the prophets.
They do not believe that the Crucifixion nor the Ascencion
of Christ to heaven ever happened, when in fact Mohammed was born 600 years after Christ. He was not there, he never witnessed what happened in Jesus' times.

You're mistaken if you think both Christians and muslims worship the same God.

The Christian God inspired the words of John 3:16 to be written: For God so loved the world that that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life!

The god of islam commands over and over Jihad! Jihad! Jihad! Smite the infidels (non muslims) on the neck until they are no more!

There's no comparison between the two in my estimation.
