You absolutely did the right thing! As it gets colder outside, it becomes harder and harder to find food and you are really helping these poor kitties out. What everyone else has said is right too, they will keep coming back for more as long as more is available.
If they are in fact friendly cats, then seriously consider either adopting them or finding someone who will adopt them. Petfinder.org may be able to help you out with this. I got my oldest cat from a shelter when she was already two and a half. To say she was/is a princess (aka brat) is putting it lightly. She made it very clear she did not like other cats when we visited my parents house. I wanted more cats though and decided to talk to someone at a shelter about this. She suggested adopting two kittens at the same time. That way the two kittens could play with each other and might leave the big kitty alone once the pecking order had been decided. So I did just that. For the first two weeks the kittens were in the house I kept them in a separate room with baby gates stacked up so the cats could "meet" through the fence and get used to the smell of each other. It worked! The oldest one doesn't love the kittens, but she doesn't through a fit about them either.
Now, after hearing that story, how cdould you possibly think that the fact that there are two cats on your back porch could possibly be a coincidence? ;-)!
That said, if you do try it out (and I whole heartedly encourage you to do so) and it just will not work out for your tom cat, find new homes for the other two. The tom cat was there first, so really, its only fair.

Once you feel them, they will return, but outside cats have too big a struggle for survival to return to a place where there is no food. If you truly do not want these cts to come back, just don't put out any more food. They many come to look for a day or two, but then will strike it off their list of rounds they make to get their daily ration.
Just for general information purposes, it may take some time for adjustments to be made, but most cats end up being able to live in peace when given the opportunity. There can be much hissing, growling and even some swatting in the beginning. This looks much more alarming for humans than it is dangerous for cats. It's kind of a display to show who is not afraid to challenge and an unavoidable part of blending a few cats into a family. It is the rare instance where the "fighting" becomes dangerous to any of the participants. To live in peace, cats need to know there place in the family and this is how they decide that.
If you do decide to bring those cats in, it woud be wise to keep them isolated from the cat in residence, just until you could have health checks done, to be sure they are not carrying any communicable disease that could harm your cat.

No you didn't do the right thing by feeding them. It's true they won't stop coming around now. You have become a meal ticket to them. That's why they are leaving you dead birds. You should have tried to take them to a pet shelter or something. Those cats will be there for life.

Yes, you did the right thing.
The dead birds are their gift to you, not very pleasing to us, but it is nature's way of things. Hopefully your tom cat will get used to them hanging around outside and eventually tolerate them inside.
Blessings and good fortune to you all the days of your life!

the 1st advice i could provide you is to get some "Boundary" puppy repellent granules and sprinkle them around the aspects that the cats are defecating and urinating on. this ought to help to ward them away and could not harm the pets or the flowers. you may in many circumstances p.c.. this up at a huge puppy keep which includes PetCo or PetSmart, yet i've got had greater valuable success looking such issues at small close by puppy/feed grant places. yet another answer is to maintain a sprig bottle or squirt gun crammed with water close to the porch, in case you capture the cat once you're outdoors, provide them a face crammed with water. they're going to study to stay away after a on a similar time as. those are non-threatening, non-violent ideas to this difficulty. have you ever talked which includes your neighbor with regard to the matters? pussycats which at the instant are not spayed or neutered should not be enable outdoors to wander in the 1st place, as this creates greater kittens and will advance the stray animal issues. Emphasize which you're hectic approximately them getting hit or harm in a roundabout way, quite than your "mulch" difficulty first, and then point out the difficulty which includes your backyard/landscaping. in the event that they at the instant are not wearing collars and tags, they technically could be seen strays, and theoretically ought to be picked up by utilising the animal administration. regrettably, many animals that bypass to animal administration in many cities at the instant are not taken to the shelters, and are only euthanized simply by fact they're seen "wild" animals. in case you settle directly to take this direction of action (which i don't recommend) call a preserve which will come p.c.. them up. this variety of retaliation or action will reason diverse strife between you and your neighbor, and could maximum in all probability make issues worse in the long-term, not greater valuable. chiefly, please do not blame the cats, they're only enjoying organic reactions and behaving for this reason. Being a puppy proprietor, i'm specific you already know this, yet i've got confidence it had to declare right here to any who examine this. A damaging habit in an animal is in general in line with their proprietor's training (or lack thereof) or an environmental or scientific situation. Frown on the owner, and not the animal, and please do not harm any of the critters. it relatively is not their fault they're behaving in a organic way for them. i'm hoping a number of this facilitates. stable success!
