I'd say NEITHER...both are important.
Part of the problem most parents have is the fear that their kids aren't grown enough to make a serious relationship work (and sometimes - SOMETIMES - they're right)! Assuming they're not freaked out, they just don't want you hurt.
BUT - If you go at it in a mature way, there's a chance you could win your parents over. Note the word "mature." You will need to show them intelligence, consideration, and maturity, to get them to realize their little kid ain't little anymore. Granted, there are no guarantees, but it's worth taking a shot at it.
That's my opinion, FWIW.

Well, that depends on the age gap.
If you are 16 and he's 20, then it's a problem, technically, you shouldn't even be dating. But at the very least, take it slow, don't do anything you might regret later, and don't upset your parents.
If you're 20 and he's 24, or you're older, then it's no big deal and your parents shouldn't have a cow with it either. If they don't like him, it's for something else, but if you are really that close, then you'll have to tell them sooner or later.

The main thing is your age. If your in your teens you are too young to know what the world or life is about and should listen to your parents. Talk with them first as are you sure they wouldn't like it. If you are in your 20's you are old enough to make up your own mind and learn by experience.

It depends on what ages you two are. If your under 18 and he's over 18 you'd better listen to him. He can go to jail for a long time and be labeled a pedophile for the rest of his life. You don't want that do you? Didn't think so. Or maybe he's worried that your too young to date.

It's not up to your parents, it's up to you. If you guys like eachother, and both don't care about the age gap, then I say screw the parents and go for it.

if you both like eachother and if one of you is under 18 and the other is 18 or over then you both should talk to your parents because one of you could end up in jail
