The airlines open the sale of tickets 330 days in advance of the flight date. So for a January flight, you could have purchased your ticket as early as February/March.

Many folks who know the dates they are traveling that far in advance (school holidays for example, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc) purchase their tickets on the date they become available in order to get the best prices and availability.

Having said all that, my advice would be to book ASAP - today if you can! You are only 5-weeks out.
