I really can't say hey maybe you should go to an animal shelter and look and get the one that you find first good luck to you and your new dog.

The statistics about these being dangerous breeds are inaccurate, but many people buy the dog for this reputation and foster a dangerous character in an otherwise loving, loyal and intelligent breed. This means that if you do not get your dog as a puppy, you should consider what the previous owners probably brought out in the dog. I would not recommend bringing an adult rottie or pit bull into a home where there were children or other pets. Also consider the possibility of children coming along later in the life of the dog.
Also, these are really smart breeds, both, and intelligent dogs need attention and discipline! They need to be well socialized and they need to know who is in charge. With either breed, I would recommend puppy classes or at least reading about how to socialize & train the dog.
That said, a properly trained rottie is the BEST DOG EVER.
I recommend the articles below, as well as the American Veterinary Medicine Association website, to anyone concerned about the supposed viciousness of these breeds.

It's not about the breed, its how they are TRAINED. Any dog that is not trained right will cause problems, wether it be a pittie, rottie, or lab. So it's up to you, just make sure you reaserch the breed first and know all about it before you jump into it. The more you know, the better ownner you will be and the better dog you will have.
As for some of the answers from ignorant people on here talking about how "dangerous" pits and rots are, get a clue and do some research instead of judging.

Your internet ebonics are ridiculous. As are your reasons for choosing between the two breeds. You shouldn't have a dog if your main motivation is to have it fight. Fighting dogs are NOT pets, and pets are NOT fighting dogs.
Getz u sum edukashun b4 uz get da dawg.
p.s. Nice retaliation in my posted question. It's just more proof of your illiteracy that you have to string together curse words in an unrelated question simply because you didn't like my answer. You've been reported.

Depends on how much room you have and how big your lap is. Can you handle a 75lb lap dog or a 60lb lap dog?
To the rest that think these breeds are bad....GET SOME KNOWLEDGE. It is people like you that fuel the fire of BSL.
As for fighting...again, fuel that BSL fire. BOTH breeds are compainion dogs. NOT fighters.
I own a "Pit bull" and I would take him over any other breed out there simply because his size is the size we need. My lap can only handle his 60lbs!! These guys do indeed need some obedience and lots of work and affection. My guy thinks he is a lap dog!
BAN STUPID PEOPLE. LEAVE THE DOGS ALONE.

Rottweiler for sure. I have had both, and they were both great dogs. But my Rottweiler has personality plus. She is incredibly smart and very loving. She has the ability to look sad when I am leaving and happy when I am there. She always wants my attention. I have never seen or heard of any other dog show the kind of love she shows me. Seriously, the Rottweiler is the only dog to get!!!!

Rottweiler. We had one for many years that passed away 2 years ago. They make loyal family dogs despite their reputations.I was in an abusive marriage and my dog Rocky protected me and when I left he jumped in the car with me.I got remarried and he had a good life.We miss him alot.I think this would be the best choice for you. They are watch dogs etc and as long as your good to any dog and teach them from a pup then they learn there behavior from that.

all dogs are loving. if those are the ONLY two breeds you are looking at, then you should just be be a friggin' adult and ADMIT that you are getting them because they are powerful dogs.
a lab or a golden retreiver is AT LEAST as loving of a dog as a rotti or a pitbull. i agree that rotti's and pits are also loving, but why ONLY those two breeds? you should reconsider the wisdom of getting a dog if you think you chose those two breeds for their loving and loyal capabilities.

I am told they are both loving and loyal... great pets. My personal experience with pit bulls is they are *very* loving, playful, cuddly, and even helpful (I had seen pit bull "aid" dogs).
Rotties make me nervous... *BUT* that is really because all I know about them is the hype... if ever I had the chance to break my nervousness around them I would seize it.
Interact with both breeds, see which one grows on you more.
