Thanks for all the great answers everyone! I was pretty worried about the weight gain but feel more at ease now! I do eat right and I exercise 2 hrs everyday 6 days a week and will continue to do so :) I have started taking the birth control Seasonale, I am taking it just to reduce my periods, not for Birth Control, I am married and my husband had a vasectomy so I dont have pregnancy worries, but figured if I was not going to get PG any time soon then why have a period every month if I dont have to and my Doctor agreed :) Again, Thanks for your responses!

The only hormonal contraceptive proven to cause significant weight gain is the Depo-Provera shot. To avoid this, don't use the shot!

"The pill" can cause an increase in appetite for some women. To avoid gaining weight, continue to eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis. Sometimes water retention happens so you gain "water weight" to avoid this, drink plenty of water while on the pill.

The myth that the pill causes weight gain is from the fact that all women gain weight at the end of puberty and after puberty whether or not they are on the pill. This is the exact same time that many women start using the pill and start to blame the weight gain on the pill. Also, it's normal these days that people do not take personal responsibility for things like weight gain and it's easier to blame a pill than blame your own bad habits and food choices.

On average, birth control pills cause 1 lb of weight gain, which isn't anything to worry about. Yasmin actually causes weight loss (again an average of about 1 lb).

When I took Yasmin, I felt nauseas every morning for the first month, and I couldn't eat breakfast, so I can see how that would cause weight loss. On the other hand, when I switched to a different pill my boobs grew a whole cup size, so that weight gain isn't that bad ;)

You won't gain weight if you eat healthy (vegetables) and exercise. I'd say in any case that having control over your reproductive system is more important than gaining a few pounds. (Who do we want to stay "skinny" for, anyway? Men.)

When I first started Alesse, I couldn't eat quite normally for probably a good two months (but I have a sensitive stomach and fickle appetite and get nauseous very easily). After that, you won't even know you're on it.

I never did. And it's not like you will explode in one month, give it a chance and then go off of it if you do gain weight and it bothers you.
