A family friend use to make coleslaw using top the tater and miracle whip. I can't remember what else though.
Anyways I don't have any vinegar which I've heard used in alot of coleslaw recipes.
Does anyone know of some basic coleslaw recipes that do not require vinegar?
And is it neccesary to use sugar?

I don't know if you want a coleslaw recipe, or "something else", but here's my coleslaw recipe: You can buy the preshredd cabbage mix or thinly slice a head of cabbage. Add: grated carrot (even if it's in the mix) 1 sm. grated onion celery seed (important ingredient... several shakes of the container) Mayo apple cider vinegar pinch of sugar milk Put cabbage in a bowl, add celery seed, grated carrot & onion Add about 1/8 cup vinegar A little bit of milk Then start mixing the mayonnaise in until it's the desired amount... all is coated well. You can add a little more milk to thin it out a bit if it's too creamy. I think the milk is what will make the difference for you since you don't like it too creamy. I'm not all that much about measuring, more because I've been making it so long, I can make a pretty educated guess. Eventually you learn to adjust the mayo/ vinegar/ milk to desired taste & consistency. Even the sugar can be adjusted, but don't leave it out.

3 cups shredded carrots
2 cups unsweetened crushed pineapple; drained
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/3 cup unsalted sunflower seeds

In a large serving bowl, combine carrots, pineapple and raisins; stir in mayonnaise. Cover and refrigerate until serving. Just before serving, add almonds and sunflower seeds; toss to coat.

"Carrot Cabbage Slaw" - 12 servings

4 cups shredded cabbage
2 cups shredded carrots
2 medium Golden Delicious apples; diced
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup honey
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 cup (8 oz.) sour cream
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/8 to 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg (optional)

In a large serving bowl, combine cabbage, carrots, apples, raisins and walnuts. In a small bowl, combine honey and lemon juice until smooth. Stir in sour cream, salt, pepper and nutmeg, if desired. Stir into cabbage mixture. Serve or chill.

This is an old family recipe.

Grandma’s Coleslaw

3 ½ tbsp vinegar
3 tbsp half & half
½ tbsp sugar
1 small cabbage, shredded
1 can crushed pineapple

Blend and serve. (Flavors probably “marry” better by sitting in the refrigerator for a while.)
