I just moved into a condo and don't have any exercise equipment available to me, but I want to start exercising and getting in shape. I have noticed that I accumulate most of my weight around my hips, so is there anything I can do to specifically target that area? I want to get toned all around, I just feel that this is my biggest trouble area. There are numerous flights of stairs that I know I can make into part of a routine somehow. I'm just looking for a specific routine I can start that will let me see results without having to go out and spend a lot of money. Thanks a lot for any suggestions you can give me.

If you are looking for specific exercise to tone your entire body, then you must do exercises that work your entire body.

The two best exercises that use nearly every muscle in your body (and are the exercises least done because of the pain that follows) are squats and deadlifts.

For your upper body do bench presses (chest) and seated rows (back) because they work the larger upper body muscles.

As a female you do not have large amounts of testosterone in your system so you should not be afraid of "bulking" up.

If you can concentrate on doing squats, deadlifts, bench press, and seated rows (for a graphic description of exact workouts Goggle them) 3 times per week and doing cardio on the days between, then in 3 months time you won't recognize yourself in the mirror. You'll have members of the opposite sex chasing you!!:)

The problem with just doing cardio that most people fail to mention is that it can create a negative cycle. While it is necessary, cardio should be incorporated with weight training.

Why? Because when you workout for long periods of time your body will start to pull nutrients from muscles and even though you are losing fat you also begin to slowly lose muscle mass.

As you lose muscle mass, your metabolism begins to slow. As your metabolism begins to slow, you have to exercise more to maintain weight loss. See the cycle?

When you include weight training, you are actually tearing your muscles from the strain. Your body boosts its metabolism to repair the muscle tissue. You actually burn calories AFTER you have finished working out.

Hard work that is well worth it.

Go up and down those stairs at a moderate pace and get that heart pumping. Cardio is the best at all around weight loss and toning. When people try to "target" and area through slower muscle strengthening, they are doing a lot less than what cardio can do. Cardio burns fat quickly and strengthens mucles at the same time. The position that stairs give you while you're jogging will help skinny your thighs and lift and firm your butt. And the cardio will tone the rest as well. You have an excellent advantage.

Start the morning with mild warm-up, from head to toe, takes about 10 minutes: warmed up, take a walk, slowly increasing the pace gradually to a brisk walk: about 15 minutes: jog, run at slow trot, about 10 minutes. (if indoors, aerobics to replace walk and jog and run): rest for about 5 minutes, then go for a swim, if you can, or, if you can't, do some dance indoors to music with beats of gradually increasing tempo, giving exercise to all parts of body, for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you can go for a walk or jog and swim in the evening also for about 30 min's, it would be excellent. Combine this routine with some Yoga every day, for about 20 min's minimum, your overall health and shape are assured!

Interval training. Either in walking, bike riding, pool, etc. Best thing for your body. Do that 4-5 times a week and lift weights 3 times a week and you'll see the results in no time.

Some form of aerobics and light weight training. Walking is free. You can get some light weights at Wal-Mart for really cheap.

get on all fours, lift each leg up, one at a time like you are a dog peeing on a fire hydrant. that will tone your butt. To me running is the best fat burner ever. many complain about impact etc. I just think they are lazy lol. good luck.

Swimming. It uses all the muscles of your body and improves your cardiovascular system as well.
