Great question. Whoever asked that either mixed up their phrase or something because it's usually don't get your hopes up! lol. Maybe they meant the same thing but don't know how to say it! lol weird.

i've only ever heard "dont get you're hopes up" meaning dont get too exited maybe the person saying it means dont get upset or "down" about something???

dont be negative, you never know what may happen. there is still hope.
